A federal judge has denied a stay wanted by Florida-based Marine Exploration Inc. for a chance of obtaining over 17 tons of silver coins that had been recovered from a sunken 19th century Spanish galleon. Spain and The Odyssey had a dispute over this matter and because that Judge had denied a stay, the coins might be under Spain's power forever, however the judges ruling was final.
In class we are leaning about the Declaration of Independance. I can connect this to what I am learnin in class because back in the time of the Revolution, there was a dispute between two contries. The Continental Congress vs. England. I can also connect this because the supreme Judge decided to go against what Odyssey wanted, kindof like how King George III went against the the colonist.
This connects to my life as a citizen because even though I find the desicions of the judge fair and absolute, his decision might have impacted my life. I am very interested in the history of the U.S. and other countries like Spain. Because of his decision, I very well, along with others, will never have the oppourtunity to investigate these coins, or their past.
As mentioned, I do agree with the Judges desision. Even though we, the U.S, discovered these coins, they truely belonged to Spain. It is as if a child had lost a dog. If you found that dog, and did not return it even though you knew who/where it belongs to, that would make you a very bad person indeed. Overall I agree with the Judge

This Christmas, people are finding that they have a budget on how much they can spend on others due to the harsh economy. Apparently, the love to shop comes in our DNA. From our ancestors, we have always have the craving to forage. Brain scanning proves this by showing a chemical release that drives people to take action. In the brain, when it comes to shopping, there are many questions the fly in your brain. When you have a limit, it is believed to make it harder to shop. Christmas shoppers must learn to control themselves with prices.
This connects to what we are studying in class due to the economy back then. They had limits on what they could spend on everyday needs, not only gifts for others. You really had to separate your money for different tasks when in the lower classes of society.
it connects to my life because if I did not have enough money to supply everyone with a large Christmas present, I would have to even dispute money towards Christmas gifts, even though my brain lusts for the shopping expierance.
My oppinion on this article is that you really have to put a lid on your spendings and buy only what you need plus small thingys for friends and family. Dont over do it.

" FOOD: Traditional Thanksgiving dinner cost 13% more this year"
http://www.nctimes.com/lifestyles/food-and-cooking/food-traditional-thanksgiving-dinner-cost-percent-more-this-year/article_3593af7e-0bf7-11e1-a7ea-001cc4c002e0.html
In this article it talks about the rising prices of food. Thanksgiving meals for 10 people will $5.73 more than the previous year. Also a turkey with the trimmings will cost 13% percent more than last year. Most holiday food prices are rising about 4$ this year. The only act of kindness they are providing are the discounts for important preparations of food.
This connects to my history class because back when there were European Explorers traveling to the new world, an English colony had experienced a similar problem. Jamestown was the first English colony and it could not obtain enough food because once they broke their link, the Natives refused to trade.
This connects to my life because every year I eat the traditional foods for Thanksgiving, (turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, etc.) and this year I will have to pay even more than usual to continue my families and other families traditions.
Even though it sad for shoppers like me, I respect the decision to raise the prices. The Economy we are living in is not really at a good place so it is understandable.

To jurors, Michael Jackson's doctor remains silent
The panel stil has to choose whether to convict or acquit Dr. Conrad Murray of the possible manslaughter of Michael Jackson. The evidence has brough 49 wittness and hundreds of pieces to the table and the panel has been told that there will be no more. Murray's decision came 22 days after testimony and some deep though and came to tell supreme court that he had not ruled out taking stand. The doctor seemed to pray before the announcement. Juror were exceused from te court room while Pastor give Murray the Miranda Warning. He told the that he will not testify. Prosecuters said Murray gave Jackson a fatal dose of anethetic propofol in Michael Jacksons house, but defendants say Jackson took the dose himself. Though Murray gave Jackson equiptment and vials of of propofol, experts say doctor should have had to be administering propofol. More than 300 pieces of evidence have been presended during the trial, which has lasted 6 weeks.
This connects to what I am learning in my history class because of the legal rights in the Bill of Rights. Dr. Murray has a right to a trial by jury as said by Bill of Rights. A great example of the Bill of Right presented in this news story is the Miranda Warning. Pastor told Dr. Murray that he had the right to remain silent. He also had a lawyer which is also allowed due to the Bill of Rights. It really connects.
This connects to my life because if I ever was accused of anything I would want a fair trial that followed my rights. Also if one of my friends were accused I would wish them the best as well. or even one of my parents.
My opinion of this case is that Dr. Murray is guilty of all charges and should be sent to jail for four years and be striped of his medical liscence. Based on the evidence it seem that that is the only thing that truely makes sence.

BUSINESS: US moves to block merger of AT&T, T-Mobile
The Justice Department filed a civil antitrust lawsuit in Federal Court in Washington to block AT&T's plan to buy T-Mobile. The Justice Department claims this purchase would displace Verizon Wireless as the largest wireless carrier in the U.S. leading to higher prices, poorer service, few choices, and fewer technologies. AT&T plans to request an expedited hearing, and states that the deal could help improve wireless service for millions and bring 5000 call-center jobs back to the U.S. from overseas. Currently, four companies (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile) control more than 90% of the U.S. wireless market, and the deal could lead to fewer choices and higher prices for Americans due to lower competition. Labor union leaders support the deal since it may bring more jobs back to America during hard economic times. Several government agencies are still investigating the pros and cons of the proposed deal.

This connects to what I am learning about the 3 branches in my History class. Mostly in Judicial with the Federal Court filing the lawsuit, and The Justice Department claiming that the combination of the two companies would displace Verizon. In Executive there are many different departments to look into to carry out the laws. In this article it mentions two of them, the FCC and the Federal Communications Commission It also talk about the Legislative branch and how it had passed a law about the monopoly of a large company taking advantage.
This connects to my life because I use my cell phone daily. I love my phone and I am not interested in paying for a overly priced phone or plan. However for my future if there is a larger opportunity for me to get a job, that could really impact my future.
My opinion of this case is that it needs to be looked into deeper before any decisions can be made. No one wants monopolies but it may bring more jobs into the future. I think the pros and cons need to be weighed closely.

http://www.nctimes.com/news/national/military-obama-announces-iraq-troop-withdrawal/article_50893ec2-1bc1-59f7-b9ba-9309bdfceb0a.html
MILITARY: Obama announces Iraq troop withdrawal
In this shorter article, it announces what President Barrack Obama declared the end of the war in Iraq. For months people have argued where the United States would continue to have military forces in Iraq past this year, but Obama assures that there won't be. President Obama had a video conference with Iraqi Prime Minister, Nouri al-Malkiki, where they discussed and came with an agreement that the war would end soon. President George W. Bush had already sealed a deal saying that our armies would withdraw by 2011. President Obama declared the end of the combat mission and stood by what was already agreed.
In class we learned about the Executive Branch and how the President is the commander-in-chief of military. This is an example of how our President uses this power.
This connects to my life as a citizen because for most of my life this war has been going on. it is a wonderful thing to know that the dark time of war is over in Iraq. It really just is great news.
There never seemed to be a valid reason for our military to be in that war anyway. My opinion is that it is a great thing to end the war that has seemed to have gone on for a very long time.

REGION: Effort to repeal state Dream Act under way
The California Dream Act, Assembly Bills 130 & 131, are controversial legislation signed by Governor Jerry Brown, allow illegal immigrant students to apply for college scholarships. Republican State Assemblyman, Tim Donnelly, has started gathering signatures and set up a funding committee for a referendum to overturn Assembly Bill 131, which allows illegals access to state-funded scholarships. He is not fighting Assembly Bill 130, which allows access to privately funded scholarships. He needs 505,000 signatures by January 6 to qualify the referendum for the November 2012 ballot.Various proponents of the Dream Act are starting to meet in order to fight the referendum. This Dream Act differs from the federal Dream Act, which would also give illegal immigrants who go to college or serve in the military the opportunity to become citizens, if it is passed. The California Dream Act takes effect in January.
In class we are learning about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. This is a good example of how we use both documents today. In this article it talks about how a state is passing a law. We have learned about the Amendment Process and how the Legislative Branch (like the California Legislature) makes the laws and the Executive branch (Governor Jerry Brown) can sign a bill (California Dream Act). It takes signatures on petitions to get a referendum on a ballot and then a vote in order to pass it (as in this attempt to overturn part of the California Dream Act). The federal Dream Act would also also give these rights to illegal immigrants if it is passed, and would affect all states, including California.
This connects to my life because I live in California and plan to go to college in less than 5 years. I am not an illegal immigrant, but in the future if they are allowed to get the scholarships, then I would need to compete for the scholarships with them. I may also have friends who are illegal immigrants and i would wish them the best and would hope they would get the same opportunities that I do.
The children they are talking about have already been in the same school system as I have and I would think it would be unfair to take away their opportunity because of something they had no choice over. I believe that they should be allowed to have a chance at a scholarship because they may impact the future due to the scholarship.
